I am Dr. Emily Mayfield, a licensed psychologist. I wanted to create a short blog on who I am and how best to use the videos you find on my channel!
I have been a psychologist for over 15 years. For the first portion of my career, I worked with the military population and I have lived all over the world. I now work in private practice and in the past few years I have started to post content on social media. It can feel lonely and isolating when you are experiencing stress in your life. I want to help people normalize their experiences and have a support network to help them through all parts of their life, but especially the most difficult times.
I post a lot about narcissism and abusive relationships on my channel, but in my private practice I focus on a variety of mental health symptoms and disorders.
When you watch my videos on social media, it is important to remember they are discussing a specific topic and aren’t meant to be all inclusive. It is the responsibility of each person who watches the videos to do their own research and seek out more information as needed. My videos are rarely over 5 minutes because I prefer to provide brief snippets of information at a time.
Think of the videos as summaries of information. Use the information in the video as a starting point for your own research to get more information. Think of my videos as a synopsis, or an overview, of main points. If you check out other videos on my channel you will be able to find information on various topics that can all string together.
Learning starts in small chunks. If a topic I bring up interests you, there is a world of information out there for you to binge on! I would also really enjoy reading your comments on questions you have, and I am happy to try to expand on any information you would like.
Thanks for watching and I hope to hear from you soon!
